Praise God for another Year

Each year in New York City, over a million people gather in Times Square, to watch the computerized LED lighting system, whose outer surface consist of triangular crystal panel referred to as “the ball drop”. The ball descends 141 feet (43 m) in 60 seconds down a specially designed flagpole, beginning at 11:59:00 p.m. EST, and resting at midnight to signal the start of the New Year.

They begin to gather early, despite the frigid weather to commemorate an old standing celebration, which has been held annually since 1907, except in 1942 and 1943 in observance of wartime blackouts. Many believe that by doing so, it will bring them some kind of good luck for the upcoming year.

However, here I go again, bursting somebody’s bubble, by telling you that by the time midnight arrives this year, the New Year will have been in place already for approximately 6.45 hours; in my area of the country, in America, the sun set today @ 5:22 pm.

In the beginning of creation, God stated that the sunset would begin the day. He says, ”…the evening and the morning”  in Genesis 1:5; 8; 13; 19; 23; 31 and counted off each day of creation from one through six; then in Genesis 2:1-3, it says He finished His work because it was the Sabbath day.

Wow! All of those poor freezing people standing uncomfortably in Times Square, to watch a ball drop from the sky, as the lie concerning the beginning of the New Year is perpetuated; I have learned that it is best to check the reasons why I do things, before I do them, so as to avoid deception. Does it always work for me? No, but I have learned that the Holy Scriptures are always true and that if I check them as my first and/or last source, I am usually pretty safe.

Anyway, I praise God for the beginning of another year, despite when it started. I am glad to be here; what about you?
