This week we shall deal with the three natures of mankind, as
used in my husband’s sermon, with partial notes taken from the book “Steps to
Personal Revival”, by Helmut Haubeil.
According to Haubeil, the three natures of mankind are:
- The natural
person who has no relationship with
God
- The spiritual
person who has a full, real relationship with God and
- The carnal
person who has a divided or pretentious relationship with God
These terms natural, spiritual and carnal are not judgments, as
they are used here; they merely describe a person’s relationship with God.
Today, we shall only deal with the natural man.
NATURAL MAN:
I
Corinthians 2:14 “the non-Christian
or natural man does not receive the things of the Spirit of God, for they are
foolishness to him; nor can he know them, because they are spiritually
discerned.
The natural man has absolutely no relationship with God or the
Holy Spirit! He lives in the world but doesn’t inquire about God at all, or
only rarely.
The last part of Romans 8:9 states: “Now if anyone does not have
the Spirit of Christ, he is not His.” And again in the first part of verse 13,
of the same chapter it says: “For if you live according to the flesh you will
die…”
That is the state of the “natural man, the non-Christian”. He is
without God or the Holy Spirit. The non-Christian or natural man will die
twice; once in this life as he knows it and the second time, after judgment is
placed upon for rejecting Christ. The
non-Christian person will die an eternal death – meaning, after he dies the
second death, there is no hope of his ever living again. That is so sad, especially when you consider
that salvation is “free” to all.
The Spiritual man – next week.
