Yesterday
was the day Americans set aside to honor all of its fathers. The day when men
receive their breakfasts in bed; are allowed to sleep in and better yet, they
are relieved from “lawn duty”. Yes, fathers can catch a break.
However,
our heavenly father never takes a break. The Psalmist tells us that He never
slumbers nor sleeps (Psalms
121:3-4 ). His watchful eye is ever on us.
Often we
think of mothers being the one who watches over their children, at all hours of
the day or night. They are the ones with the attentive ear and eye; but they
inherited that from their heavenly father.
Some
earthly fathers fail to provide for their children, for various reasons; but
God promises and does provide for all of our needs according to His riches in
glory, by Christ Jesus (Philippians
4:19).
Some
earthly fathers desert their wives and children; but God promises never to
leave or to forsake us (Hebrews
13:5).
Unfortunately,
some fathers abuse their wives and children; but God says that He will not
harm, even a bruised reed/stalk or a smoking flax, which is a plant fiber, used
to make clothing in bible times (Isaiah
42:3).
Yes, on
Sunday Americans honored the fathers in their country; I believe that we each
need to learn to honor our heavenly father every day; for in Him we live and
move and have our very existence (Acts
17:48).
