Yippee!

We left off the last post with Jesus, metaphorically, knocking at the door of your heart seeking entry. The latch to the door is on the inside, therefore, it is you, who must consent to release the latch and allow Jesus to enter.

The awesome promise Jesus offers is this: 

“Behold, I stand at the door, and knock: if any man hear my voice, and open the door, I will come in to him, and will sup with him, and he with me.  To him that overcometh will I grant to sit with me in my throne, even as I also overcame, and am set down with my Father in his throne.” Revelation 3:20-21

Therefore, if we will open our hearts or minds to the idea that the Creator of the universe wants to dwell/ live with/ be with/ embrace us, then we will gladly release the latch. Consequently, let us explore what this truly means.

1. What does it mean to “hear His voice?” “So then faith cometh by hearing, and hearing by the word of God.” Romans 10:17 - This means generally, that in order for someone to believe, in this Savior called Jesus, that someone must first “hear” about Him. Jesus can be introduced to the sinner (un-saved/transgressor) via a sermon, a phone call, a godly life, or even a blog post. The methodology is not that import; it’s the results that matter.

2. “To open the door:” means that your mind must be open to hearing and investigating new ideas, new concepts that you may not have ever heard of before. There must be on your part, a willingness to entertain the idea of Jesus as Savior and Lord, in your life.

3. “I will come in and sup with you.” It has often been said that the best way to get to know someone is to eat a meal together. Going out to lunch or dinner is one of the first things a man will ask a woman to do, in an effort to get to know her.

4. What is the meal that you’ll be sharing? Answer – The Word of God! Jesus declared Himself to be the “bread of life”. John 6:35 “And Jesus said unto them, “I am the Bread of Life. He that cometh to me (Jesus) shall never hunger, and he that believeth in me (Jesus) shall never thirst.” To get to know Jesus is an opportunity to fill your life with blessings and positivity; along with finding the answers to some of life’s greatest challenges.

a. In this same chapter of John 6, we read in John 6:51, the following: “I am the living bread which came down from heaven: if any man eat of this bread, he shall live forever: and the bread that I will give is my flesh, which I will give for the life of the world.” 

b. In this verse, Jesus is using “sanctuary language”. In the sanctuary was 12 loaves of bread, which when replaced weekly, was only to be eaten by the priest. This bread represented the coming Messiah, which was the Word of God. John 1:1-3, 14

c. Additionally, this same bread, which became the word; or this Word that became bread, is the same Messiah that willingly hung upon a cross at Calvary, dying for the sins of the world. John 3:16-17 – The purpose for the Messiah’s coming was to save mankind from eternal death.

d. “For he hath made him to be sin for us, who knew no sin; that we might be made the righteousness of God in him.” II Corinthians 5:21 – Jesus willingly took the place of every sinner, who will, by faith accept Him as their Savior.
